Our programs are designed to confront systemic inequities and foster long-term solutions that lead to financial stability, career advancement, and entrepreneurial success. By centering the needs of mid-skilled and underrepresented communities, we create pathways that are not only accessible—but truly transformative.
We have a great team of working board members, business advisory board members, and volunteers working with us. Our executive staff consists of our lead management team, curriculum Instructors, housing development contractors, executive consultants, and administrative assistants. Last but not least we work with our community partners and who offer great value to us through their dedication to our purpose and mission goals
Strategic Workforce Development Inc. (SWD) was founded on August 24, 2018, as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to job development, employment services, and workforce preparation across Greater Kansas City, MO. Since its inception, SWD has grown into a trusted workforce development leader and an accredited pre-apprenticeship program, collaborating with Allied Trades, union and non-union contractors, and developers to build inclusive career pathways.
SWD in 2025: Expanding Impact and Innovation
1. Curriculum & Career Readiness
SWD has launched new curricula and training programs designed for students preparing to enter the workforce. These offerings provide essential education, career guidance, and entrepreneurial support—delivered in partnership with schools throughout Kansas City.
2. Contractors Program
In response to community needs and industry gaps, SWD has introduced a dynamic Minority Contractors Program. This initiative blends entrepreneurship training with technical instruction, helping emerging contractors learn to:
• Bid on projects
• Draft professional proposals
• Draft professional proposals
• Read blueprints
• Manage bookkeeping and business operations
2. This program is designed to support graduates of SWD’s apprenticeship tracks who aspire to launch their own contracting businesses—creating a pipeline of skilled, empowered entrepreneurs ready to contribute to Missouri’s construction economy.
Our beneficiaries are the disadvantaged discouraged, dislocated, minority, re-entry, youth, women, veterans and mid-skilled populations in the Greater Kansas City area and vicinities
