SWD connects Kansas City's most determined people to high-demand careers in the skilled trades — now powered by AI.
You are not a statistic. You are a builder, a provider, a leader in the making. SWD is designed for the hustlers, the comeback stories, and anyone ready to work for a better future.
Every SWD program is built around one promise: you leave closer to a career than when you walked in — with skills, certifications, and a team that has your back.
We believe the future of work is powered by AI — and our community deserves to be in the room where it happens. The SWD AI Lab equips our participants with digital literacy, AI tools, and technology confidence to compete and thrive in every employment sector.
Powered in partnership with Widerange Management Group's Study Buddy Pro platform.

Employers who partner with SWD gain access to trained, motivated, work-ready candidates — and help build a more equitable regional economy. As a Section 3 Certified organization, we help you meet compliance while doing what's right for the community.
Names and faces are real — because impact isn't hypothetical. It's rent paid, kids fed, and careers launched.
Strategic Workforce Development Inc. (SWD) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit rooted in Kansas City, MO and operating in Columbus, OH — built by and for communities that were never supposed to have a seat at the table.
Today, SWD is a pre-apprenticeship institution and AI-powered workforce hub proving that when opportunity meets potential, entire neighborhoods shift.

Strategic Workforce Development Inc. was founded on August 19, 2018 as a job development initiative committed to expanding opportunity for disadvantaged communities in Kansas City, MO. What began as a grassroots effort to connect people with employment has evolved into an accredited Pre-Apprenticeship Program — partnering with Allied Trades, General Contractors, and Developers to create clear, equitable pathways into high-demand careers in the skilled trades.
Rooted in community and driven by economic mobility, SWD now serves Kansas City, MO — equipping re-entry individuals, veterans, youth, women, and mid-skilled workers with the skills, support, and connections needed to build lasting careers and stable families.
Today, SWD is not just a workforce program. We are a movement. And now, with the launch of our AI/CTE Lab, we are preparing our community for the jobs of the future — not just today.
