Build It KC Training

Our Program

Strategic Workforce Development, Inc.

Strategic Workforce Development, Inc. (SWD) will offer a 120-hour fast-track training program preparing candidates for development and rehabilitation projects across Kansas City, MO, and called Build It KC. Build It KC is on-the-job training (OJT) and social and economic betterment program. Taking into consideration existing and planned employment opportunities in the Kansas City area, there are two tracks of vocational training and a third life skills component included in the program. SWD will also provide training in construction and general maintenance. This program has been designed as a public-private partnership to improve the overall well-being of the participants, by supporting them in becoming self-sufficient via (1) hard-skills training and certifications, (2) in-depth soft skill seminars (3) OJT and, (4) Resumes, interview mock-ups, job leads, and work attire. Each training track is 120 hours within a four-week period. SWD, Inc. then works with its extensive network of employers in the Kansas City area to place trainees in jobs, upon successful completion of the Built It KC program. SWD also has retention services to ensure the candidates stay employed and does job-shadowing for a year

The Build It KC program focuses primarily on the career paths available within the construction sector. The first component of the Build It KC program is “Acclimation into the Construction Trades.” This track supports unions and/or contractors and who actively look for skilled and qualified workers to enter their apprenticeship programs. These employers also look for socially skilled and reliable employees for their workforce development programs. For our construction education program, we make sure that candidates will be vetted and have acquired hard-skill job certification, and are qualified for the program. We have well-established relationships with employers in the area that have previously employed SWD candidates, increasing the likelihood that our candidates get hired by employers.
